Introduce a Girl to Engineering Workshop (IGEW) March 2019 Society of Women Engineers (SWE) at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) Committee Chair; Event Coordinator
IGEW is an all day, interactive workshop for female students in grades 3 - 5. Modules are designed to teach participants that engineering can be fun and is for everyone. As committee chair and event coordinator, a team of five individuals was led over a planning period of 10 months in order to hold the event. Duties during the event included ensuring registration and pickup went smoothly, assisted parents with concerns, dismissed children, and more. IGEW 2019 reached 230 participants with over 50% being Title I students, 63 volunteers, and six sponsors.
Champion Elementary STEM Outreach January 2019 SWE at ERAU Coordinator; Activity Lead
SWE at ERAU visited Champion Elementary's fifth grade students. SWE at ERAU taught students about chemical reactions, molecule sizes, and the states of matter through the usage of homemade lava lamps. Coordinating this outreach event included communication with the school and facilitator, updating the lesson plan, and organizing volunteers. As activity lead, this lesson was taught to 100 fifth grade students.
Cypress Creek Elementary Pen Pal Program September 2018 - April 2019 SWE at ERAU Program Coordinator; Pen Pal
SWE at ERAU created a pen pal program with Cypress Creek Elementary School's Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) after school program. This program includes children from kindergarten up to the fifth grade. This program was developed to help young students become interested in STEM. As coordinator, duties included ensuring continuous communication with pen pals and communication with the STEAM program lead. Pen pal duties included writing to a kindergartner and a fifth grade student.
NASA Female Mentoring Event November 2018 SWE at ERAU Collegiate Mentor
SWE at ERAU members were invited to participate in a NASA mentoring event with middle school female students. Collegiate students were paired up with a female NASA employee and a student. Over dinner, participants were encouraged to ask questions about college, degrees, what the work force was like, and many more.
Cypress Creek Elementary STEAM Program Outreach October 2018 SWE at ERAU Coordinator; Activity Lead
SWE at ERAU visited Cypress Creek Elementary School's Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) after school program. This program includes children from kindergarten up to the fifth grade. SWE at ERAU taught students about chemical reactions, products and reactants, and density through the usage of an "Elephant Toothpaste" reaction. Coordinating this outreach event included communication with the school and facilitator, updating the lesson plan, and organizing volunteers. As activity lead, the lesson was taught to 19 students.
Beth Ethel Elementary School Outreach April 2018 SWE at ERAU Coordinator; Activity Lead
SWE at ERAU visited a Beth Ethel fifth grade classroom. SWE at ERAU taught students about chemical reactions, molecule sizes, and the states of matter through the usage of homemade lava lamps. Coordinating this outreach event included communication with the school and facilitator, updating the lesson plan, and organizing volunteers. As activity lead, the lesson was taught to 30 fifth grade students.

Duties during the event included ensuring registration and pickup went smoothly, assisted parents with concerns, dismissed children, and more. IGEW 2018 reached 218 participants with over 30% being Title I students, 45 volunteers, and three sponsors.

SWE at ERAU visited Cypress Creek Elementary School's Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) after school program. This program includes children from kindergarten up to the fifth grade. SWE at ERAU taught students about chemical reactions, molecule sizes, and the states of matter through the usage of homemade lava lamps. As a coordinator, duties included making contact with the school and developing a lesson plan. Teaching the module to 21 students was the outcome from being the activity lead for this volunteer opportunity.

Wow! That's Engineering! is an all day event hosted by the SWE professional section of Space Coast in Melbourne, Florida. This event targets female students in grades 7 - 10. As a module assistant, I helped to teach the participants about aerodynamics and the engineering design process alongside industry professionals through paper aircrafts. Students then were able to test their designs and redesign their aircraft if necessary.

Wow! That's Engineering! is an all day event hosted by the SWE professional section of Space Coast in Melbourne, Florida. This event targets female students in grades 7 - 10. As a module assistant, I helped to teach the participants about buoyancy and the engineering design process alongside industry professionals through clay boats. Students then were able to test their designs and see how many metal nuts their design could hold.

NASA Family Day is an event for families at the Kennedy Space Center. This event was conducted by NASA, but sought help from the SWE Space Coast section, which asked for help from SWE at ERAU. As an activity assistant, duties included helping leads with various STEM related activities.
